Manila: Metro Manila and its old churches

Below is a "Directory of Cultural Heritage Churches" in Metro Manila which used to be found in http://www.aam-rcam.org/vim/index.htm but is no longer online. I was still able to salvage it from the Google cache. I'm sure there are more since Paranaque has several others such as the Redemptorist Church in Baclaran and the San Dionisio Church for example; and schools have charming churches and chapels as well such as the Abbey of Our Lady of Montserrat in San Beda College and the Chapel of the Holy Sacrifice in UP Diliman which is both a National Historical Landmark and an Important Cultural Property. Visiting all the churches below is one adventure worth doing in the near future.

    Ivan,
I HAPPEN TO BE A FORMER INTERNEE OF SANTO TOMAS INTERNMENT CAMP FROM 1942 TO 1945. HOWEVER, PRIOR TO OUR BEING LOCATED AT THE UST, WE, THAT IS, PEOPLE WHO HAD BEEN OFFLOADED FROM THE SS ANHUI, WERE LOCATED BY THE RED CROSS IN A RESORT CLALLED SULFUR SPRINGS IN SFDM.

DO YOU HAVE ANY HISTORY OF THIS RESORT, OR ANY PICTURES OF THE FACILITY. I AM PREPARING A TALK ABOUT MY INTERNMENT AND WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP. THANKS

  3. Hi George, maybe you could try visiting the American Historical Collection at the Rizal Library, Ateneo de Manila University. They might have materials there.

  5. G'day George Baker,
It was interesting to read your comment.
My father and his family were also aboard the "Anhui" and spent time in Santo Tomas. His name was George Muir and he still has two sisters, Bella and Jean, living in New Zealand.
I am at present putting a bit of a history together for my own children and came across this site.

    Regards, Roy Muir.

I'm turning 50y.o. soon. And on my wishList- to visit 50 local churches (for the first time). I'm counting 20 from Bulacan, Batangas, Laguna & Quezon trips. 30 more to go...

I chanced upon your website, and OHH! I'm so happy to see your very useful/informative Heritage churches listing, specially for MetroManila churches. I didn't know our metro has a handful of beautiful & magnificent churches too. Thank you very much for your splendid job & advocacy for culutural awareness. I've seen your other photo galleries- Fantastic!

My advise to other trippers, it is much better to visit/hear mass on our local but awesome churches on weekends or the holidays. To appreciate it better is quite limited during the holyWeek.

    More power to YOU, Ivan.
