Just to let everyone know, July 27, 2009 was declared Iglesia ni Cristo Day commemorating the founding anniversary of the sect. The question is whether it is a special working holiday or a non-working holiday since the Inquirer and Philippine Star are reporting it differently. If it is, that adds to the long weekend calendar for this year. For more on this year's long weekends, read Philippine holidays and long-weekend schedule for 2009.
Update: I contacted a friend in Malacanang. Sorry people, but it's a working holiday. I was told the PDI print version also says that. Now there goes the credibility of Inquirer.net!
working or non-working? abs-cbn and sun star are reporting it differently from inquirer
ReplyDeleteit's a special working holiday. i don't have a copy of the actual law (RA 9645) but here's the copy of the senate bill which was the basis of the law -- http://senate.gov.ph/lisdata/1157810161!.pdf
ReplyDeleteYes, but GMA can further declare it a non-working holiday by Presidential Proclamation. That law has been there for quite a while now. So I feel the PDI came out with the report because of a new directive from GMA.
ReplyDeleteIf there is really what we call 'na-kuryente", this is it.
ReplyDeletenakuryente? ikaw mismo!
ReplyDelete"Now there goes the credibility of Inquirer.net!"
ReplyDeleteactually, malacanang admitted that it issued 2 conflicting statements. so it was not inquirer's fault.
hi. i am an iglesia ni cristo. conflicting reports like this confuse the general public. this is why we (inc) are, believe it or not, apolitical. politics is NEVER mentioned in any of our worship services. we only vote because jesus said, "give to cesar what is cesar's". and we only vote as a bloc because unity is a fundamental doctrine of our church. other than these, we do not really care who wins in any election. God bless you. :)
ReplyDeleteApolitical? Boooooooooooh!
ReplyDeleteIt is just a proof that INCs are influential in the Philippine Government.
I'M AN INC.. SUPOOSED TO BE IT IS A NON- WORKING HOLIDAY>..
ReplyDeleteyes INCs are very influential to the Government it is because by the grace of God give us all the thing in the world to protect us. And voting doesn't mean were giving back what people have supported us. It is th will of God, being united by His words. And following Him is obeying his will. So whoever wins.. whatever happens it is His will.. weather for the good or bad.. it is His will. He has his plans. This earth may ruin by the doom of leaders..but His followers wil remain safe. And in connection to the proclamation? Weather its non-working or working holiday.. expect the huge number of us celebrating that day..despite of the hindrance of evils. This is a test for us.. just how God test Jesus..so what is important to us - to work or to celebrate that day? Me..to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteHi there....I 'am an INC. Just want to ask if our children has to be absent in their school? Is working holiday means no school for our children? Thanks
ReplyDeleteThis is just a waste of time and money for the economy, people are would NOT be productive on INC day. It is not unusual for the government to favor such foolishness. If Arroyo would let this happen, El Shaddai, JIL and other religious group should also request this thing. Then it is a domino effect, nobody will work if this would become a regular holiday. It is time to pay the bills for Arroyo. I am just wondering how INC has the guts to ally for Arroyo, influence is now for sale?
ReplyDeleteto all critics out there! affected? it's non of your business if the government recognizes us! why don't you criticize Muslims when they were given theirs? we never criticized any religions with regards to the government decision, if that was your problem then you must seek for a psychiatrist to check if your brain still functions normally.. for us brethren, we just celebrate it for us to be strong in our faith and thank God for the wonderful things He had done to the church. happy 95th Anniversary to us all! happy INC Day!!!
ReplyDeleteI am INC member. July 27 is a very special day for us. We will celebrate it and expect a huge number of us who will be in the designated venues to celebrate with our brethren. It is our day whether is was declared working or non-working. Other religions have their share of special holidays so it is only right that we have our own.
ReplyDeleteThe "i.n.c" never requested the govt to make jul 27 a holiday whatsoever. They would not care whether it is a working or nonworking holiday. For i.n.c members celebrate this day eversince. As for the influentiality of this sect, july 27 as a holiday speaks for itself. Happy aniv i.n.c
ReplyDeleteHappy 95th Anniversary!
ReplyDeletewag nio sila pansinin..
let them celebrate christmas on december 25, 2009 and DOn't Complain Ayt?
HAHAHAHAH
July 27, 1914
See you there GUys!
God's will is always good.
ReplyDeleteIf somethings happen that's not good it's not him who did it. It's someone else.
Because Jesus is Life he don't want us to suffer.
TO ALLIGLESIA NI CRISTO IN ALL OVER THE WORLD WHO ARE CELEBRATING 95TH. YEARS OF FOUNDATION I AM PROUD TO ALL OF YOUR MEMBER ESPECIALLY TO YOUR GREAT LEADER THE FOUNDER OF THE CHURCH THAT HE IS THE EXAMPLE OF ONE OF THE GREATEST FILIPINO TO BE HONOR FOR HIS INCREDIBLE WORKS TO THE FILIPINO PEOPLE, EVEN DO WE ARE NOT THE MEMBER OF YOUR CHURCH WE ARE GIVING YOU A RESPECT AND WE ARE SALUTE YOU ALL ....HAPPY HAPPY IGLESIA NI CRISTO DAY TO ALL OF YOUR MEMBERS....
ReplyDeleteIgleisia ni (cristo) is the fullfillment of the prophecy that the end of time is near. The Bible says that at the end of the days, false prophets would rise that would bring in thousands to millions of people under his church. certainly Manalo is one of those false prophets who rose during the latter days of out time. INC would definitely spread to the corners of this world in order to fulfill the prophecy in the Bible. Christians must discern this and strengthen their relationship with God.
ReplyDelete"This is just a waste of time and money for the economy, people are would NOT be productive on INC day. It is not unusual for the government to favor such foolishness."
ReplyDelete---------------------------
I'm sorry but i cant agree with this...what can u say about spending a "holy week" because Christ died..would that then benefit the economy? This is just one day of commemorating ..it's not foolishness at all..
Basta kami, nagkakaisa. haha. diba bros & sis?

Happy Anniversary INC! I just went to the church for the thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteanyway, whether it will be working or non working, we (inc) will be there for our celebration.
i don't think PGMA did this because i read a senate bill from Senator Escudero passing July 27 as a holiday.
Why question us?
Catholics do have their week long holiday, "holy week", is should say..
then muslims have their ramadan..
then why question this event?
let them (JIL, El Shaddai) have their own.. we never requested for it..
:i'll be celebrating tomorrow. Happy 95th Anniversary!
