We have another long weekend coming up! Aside from November 1 (Tuesday), Malacanang just declared October 31 (Monday) as a special non-working holiday through Proclamation No. 265 "to give full opportunity to our people to properly observe [All Saints Day] with all its religious fervor which invariably requires them to travel to and from different regions of the country."
So that's a four-day long weekend for us from October 29 to November 1, 2011. In the meantime, here's the list of Philippine holidays and long-weekend schedule for 2011.
is it only in the phils. where holidays is declared only weeks before it happens? usually, in many countries, holidays are known years in advance so that family can plan ahead, and not rely on an incumbent politician.. what's your take on this Ivan?
ReplyDeleteMost of the regular holidays were already declared last year. The Muslim holidays are declared weeks before since the date is unknown until the actual date nears.
ReplyDeleteBut this current one is an afterthought seeing the sandwiched day between the weekend and November 1 holiday. The current president has been very conservative about declaring holidays, scrapping holiday economics in fact during a year when most of them fall on a Saturday or Sunday.
The previous president would have had the foresight to see those sandwiched work days and would have included special non-working holidays in her proclamation. Foresight is something the current president lacks and needs to learn from his predecessor.
Please suggest to Mr. President, "Sana hindi siya mag-long special holiday o mag-long non-working holiday, kawawa kaming daily payroll basis compared to monthly basis, wala kaming sahod o kainin dahil sa "No work, no salary" policy.
